Global Women’s Strike 2001
On International Women's Day 2000, waged & unwaged women in 64 countries joined the first-ever Global Strike. To "stop the world and change it"! On 8 March 2001, women & girls will strike again to demand that society ‘invests in the enrichment of every life’ rather than for the enrichment of a few.
Demands:
-
Payment for all caring work - in wages, pensions, land & other resources.
-
Pay equity for all, women & men, in the global market.
-
Paid maternity leave, breastfeeding breaks & other benefits
-
Abolition of 'Third World debt' which falls heaviest on women & girls.
-
Accessible clean water, non-polluting energy & technology
-
Accessible healthcare, housing, transport, literacy & information.
-
Protection & asylum from all violence & persecution
-
Freedom of movement. Capital travels freely, why not people?
