Lincolnshire Nightlife
Two women spent five hours on July 2nd damaging a farm scale trial of genetically modified spring oil seed rape at Low Burnham, Lincolnshire (grid ref SE 776 018). The crop had been due to flower. The next morning members of the press visited the site and talked with one of them. There is strong local opposition to the site, locals had previously tried to stop the planting of the GM seed, but failed. On July 5th one of the women delivered the destroyed crop to the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and explained her actions in a face-to-face meeting with Environment Minister Michael Meacher.
