Kurdish shareholders protested at Balfour Beatty’s AGM in May against the planned Ilisu dam which will flood the ancient city of Hasankeyf and leave 72,000 homeless. The Friends of the Earth motion that they adopt guidelines from the World Commission on Dams was rejected. BB’s Chair whinged “if we had known how controversial this project would be we could have saved ourselves a lot of trouble by not taking part in it.”
