Safety Dad Gets Cross
Dad Derek Potter was furious after his six-year-old daughter was knocked down on a busy road outside his cafe. Swansea Council told him they could only afford to build one new crossing this year and had 50 other requests. So Derek decided to do it himself. Every night he sneaked out to paint black and white stripes on the road, complete with battery operated beacons and railings. But as he was finishing, he was arrested and his crossing dismantled. He said: "The playground is just over the road and children are always risking their lives to get there." After council workers moved in, all that remained were a few white stripes on the road.
