Hockley Eviction Alert!

On the 19th October, Countryside Properties gained a possession order for the site occupied by protestors at Hockley. The threatened site, situated between two Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation contains highly endangered protected wildlife such as bats and great crested newts. Ironically the developers Countryside Residential, are corporate sponsors of the Essex Wildife Trust, as are local planning authority, Rochford District Council.

Plans to build new houses for private ownership gained approval from Rochford District Council this summer despite claims of errors in the planning documents. Campaigners plan to appeal the possession order and there is a 7 day stay of execution, but ultimately an eviction is likely soon.
