News In Brief

Critical Mass cycle rides returned to Norwich last October. Recent ones have been pretty good, but more cyclists with attitude are always welcome. Meet 2pm, the last Saturday of the month at St. Peter Mancroft by the Old Library car park. Also Norwich direct action forum is now set as a regular event. The evening is a chance to meet up with different group using Direct action, and there is usually a video. 1st Thurs of each month, The Plough, St. Benedicts Street Norwich.

The Non Alignment Action Group continues to rally support against the proposed road near Roslin south of Edinburgh. Public meetings and route walks are being held regularly. Contact NAAG, 01968 675109

The infatigable people at 'La Goutte d'Eau' action camp in the wonderful Aspe Valley in the Western Pyrenees have been fighting the widening/building of the E7/RN134 road - including a 9 km tunnel - for 11 years, and the battle is not over yet! With the changing French political climate and an increasingly resisting local population, the campaign has renewed hopes of success. Contact +33-55934-7883

The EF! Summer Gathering is going ahead! People are still desperately needed to help out on both site based and program based practicalities. The focus will be on skill sharing, active networking and campaign planning, with all the long term strategy being left to the next Winter Moot. Dates are 19th-24th August. Contact Leeds EF!

On June 12th (date tbc) there will be a day called ‘Gene-Free Jamboree’ in London and there’s a plan to have an EF! stall at it. Please call 0161 2266814 if you want to be involved

On April 3rd, Manchester activists occupied two major Mc Donald’s branches. While the first action was cut short by the fact that a van load of police were buying their lunch at the time (!), the second branch was brought into chaos for over an hour with thousands of leaflets distributed to interested shoppers.

Manchester’s 4th OKasional Cafe was a big success with £3000+ raised through donations & a multitude of events happening. It lasted for over a month and made a brief re-appearance during the RTS on April 30th.

Days after the Crystal Palace evictions, Manchester EF!ers occupied UCI’s head office in the city centre for 1 1/2 hours.

Tarmac sneakily changed their AGM date from 8 June to 24 May in Birmingham. Call Notts EF! NOW if you can go and help shut it down!

On April 20th Shell's international headquarters in London were spattered in green and red paint in an act of solidarity with the people of the Niger Delta, coinciding with Shell boss Mark Moody-Stuart's launch of 'People, planet, profit - an act of commitment', their latest greenwash piece.

At a public meeting on GM food in Somerset, Steve "smoothy" Smith of Novartis was pied. He cleaned himself up in the toilets, only to be pied again. The organisers of the meeting condemned the “deplorable” action of “outsiders”. But ‘Captain Custard’, the entarteur, commented; “'Proper devate' is clearly irrelevant to corporations intent on forcing GM food down people's throats".
