Faslane Actions

To demonstrate their objection to the war the peace campers have been holding a vigil at the gates of the base. H.M.S. Splendid, based at Faslane, is currently firing cruise missiles at Yugoslavia. On May 15th there will be a mass vigil starting at 7:00 pm, which hopefully will turn into a 24-hour vigil.

In a complete divergence from established procedures the new nuclear submarine HMS Vengeance, on its arrival in the Clyde estuary, did not go to its berth at Faslane. It went instead to the base at Coulport , to try and avoid prying eyes and TV cameras. However, protesters left their vigil on the Gareloch and hiked 3 miles across the hillside to get into the waters of Loch Long close to the submarine. At least six people swam out towards Vengeance despite heavy police presence, some of them getting within 10 0 yards of the vessel.
