Anyone For A Referendum?
...raising awareness, empowering from below, networking, demanding the impossible - a global ban on genetiX?
As revealed on the Mark Thomas show, it is possible for local people to demand a local referendum on any issue of concern to them. And so to coincide with the Euro elections on June 10th, in Devon, Dorset, Buckinghamshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Merseyside, Brighton, Newcastle and elsewhere people are getting their own referenda together....and it isn't too late to get involved.
Under the 1972 local government act it requires six "local government electors" to call a parish meeting. If at this meeting ten electors (or one third of those present whichever is the LEAST) call for a referendum it happens. Quite simple really! The idea being to set the ball rolling to demand a national referendum. To get involved contact SYGEN on 01226 762359 for a information pack or email pp3mo@aol.com. A spare quid or two to help with costs would go a long way.
