Resist Railtrack!

On Thursday, February 25th, Railtrack's storage dump in Oxford was occupied for two hours by around 40 people. The storage dump, dubbed 'the quarry' because of it s similarity in terms of noise and dust pollution, has been the subject of local dislike for many months and people are now turning to direct action to address the problem.

The protesters are all local people and most have had no previous experience of direct action. Their intention was to stop the stone being removed from the dump, but as no removal work was happening that day they left after 2 hours having 'generally disrupted its working'. There was a police presence but no arrests. Further attempts to stop work look likely in the future..
