Arthur's Wood

The camp against Manchester Airport at Arthurs Wood is currently on stay of eviction until March 3rd, pending a decision on whether the appeal against eviction can be taken to the House of Lords. If that further appeal is granted, then the camp will be safe for some time to come.

However, if it is not then eviction is expected to follow immediately. The reason for the haste is that the contract for felling the trees ends on March 31st, the day the bird nesting season starts. The campaign intends to start legal proceedings if work continues into the nesting season.

Contractors estimate that there is about 4 weeks of work to do on the site, so any delay in the eviction caused by large numbers of people could prove decisive in saving the wood and giving Manchester Airport PLC a greater headache.
