Richard Dixon and Rose Browning have been released from prison pending their appeal against their charges from Whatley Quarry on October 19th.

David Chain, an American EF! activist, was killed by a falling redwood tree when trying to stop logging at Fortuna, CA. The logger from Pacific Lumber claimed not to see him, but as there were several other activists nearby, this seems unlikely.

Zap the Embassy! In solidarity with the Zapatistas of Chiapas, Mexico, there is a picket outside the Mexican Embassy on the first Friday of every month. The picket on 2nd of October will evoke memories of earlier state repression: it is the 30th anniversary of the date when 500 students were massacred in Mexico City, at the same time as the Olympic Games. The Ukrainian Rainbow Keepers are facing severe state harassment over their campaign against the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which is financing nuclear projects in their country. Apartments have been raided and computers stolen, and individuals have received threats of prison and murder.

The Hillingdon Hospital workers are marking the third anniversary of their strike with a march and rally to highlight their struggle. The strikers, mainly Asian women have been sold out by UNISON and are desperately short of cash. Meet Oct. 3rd at the hospital 1pm. More info:0956 135311.
