Sellafield Castor Transport Delayed

On the 6th of April about 30 activists went to stop a nuclear waste train carrying three CASTORs travelling from Germany to Sellafield. One group locked onto the railtrack near Sellafield with thumbcuffs. The police responded to the situation with force, arresting everyone who wasn't locked on inside half an hour and then brutally removing those who were, dragging them out of their thumbcuffs or cutting through them with boltcroppers having little regard for safety.

This delayed the train by maybe two hours and all of the first group of activists had just been arrested when over the dunes came a valiant second wave, arriving in time to watch the first group be driven away. They did however manage to delay the train further through police paranoia.

18 arrests took place but nobody was charged, although videotape was confiscated. There was much evidence of local support, from cars beeping past the police station to old men in the pub afterwards. It was felt to be a positive action, everyone intended to go home and set up affinity groups to make the next one even more so.
