Ashton Court

The camp at Ashton Court Quarry is moving into a new phase of activity as work on the site is likely to start any day.

The camp was set up as a focus for the protest against the expansion of Durnford Quarry into Ashton Court, a public park near Bristol. The park was bought by the city council in 1959 who have leased 20 acres at the top end of the estate to Pioneer Aggregates, an Australian multinational. Pioneer want to expand the Quarry, and have been given planning permission, against the wishes of local people.

This will destroy 20 acres which currently supports a diverse habitat.

Part of the land to be dug up includes a wildflower meadow that Pioneer is proposing replanting on another field, half a mile away, which is inhabited by badgers. The badgers were evicted but have recently reoccupied their sett and need some support to keep possession...

Detailed directions to the camp are available - contact 0467 430211 or 0117 9393039 or look it up on the campaign website: http://www.gn.apc.org/cycing/ashtoncourt.
