1997 Billboard Blackout Championships
UK plc had the good fortune of being selected to host the world's first ever Billboard Blackout Championships in the week leading up to this year's No Shop Day. Subvertisers deleted brand names and crass corporate images from billboards nationally to create Ad Free Zones. Teams were invited to enter for this 'full-on, full-frontal attack on planet trashing consumerism', with a suggestion that they divide up their town or city between teams. Entries included blacked out writing on adverts and subvertised slogans. The closing date for the competition is undisclosed.
