Genetix Actions
In the UK many people took part in the global days of action against genetic engineering. Here is a little taster of some of the inspiring and successful activities which took place. Local mutant vegetables dressed to impress Labour Party delegates at their annual conference in Brighton. Campaigners in Norfolk marked out and taped off areas they believed to be biohazards at the John Innes centre, which is involved in development of GE plants and bacteria.
Five activists spent 3 hours NAKED on the roof tops of Monsanto's advertising agency Bartle Bogle & Hegarty (BBH). They were exposing the cover up of genetically manipulated food. They agreed to come down if the company signed a written statement declaring all GM food safe for public consumption and safe for the environment. Of course BBH refused to sign such a ridicules statement. Total exposure, nice one!
All over the country around 50 groups took part in supermarket actions, this was accompanied by street theatre and information stalls. Ending the two weeks involved 30 hours of music, art, web sites and dance to compliment information about the campaigns against genetic engineering at the Global Internet Cafe in Soho, London. Overall the days of action raised a lot of awareness and support but the industry continues to grow and mutate so keep up the pressure and lets stop it before it's......
