Doom Dome

Six activists recently entered the construction site of the millennium dome in Greenwich, south-east London. They climbed the giant 350ft crane hired to lift the masts that support the structure of the dome, bringing work on site to a virtual standstill. The occupation was the work of a coalition of empowered local people and activists from various groups uniting under the banner of "Time Bomb!". The campaign is calling for the abandonment of the "Doomsday Dome".

The occupation marks the beginning of a sustained campaign of non-violent direct action on the site of the proposed millennium dome. The building work is already behind schedule, and with the construction deadline already being extremely tight, this could spell the end for one of the most unpopular white elephants ever conceived in Britain.
