Table Dance Against Runway 2

Four CAR2 campaigners evaded police, undercover detectives and tuxedoed Reliance security guards to gate-crash the ‘Runway 2 Celebration Dinner’ in Manchester on the 18th April.

While other activists staged a banner drop in front of the Piccadilly Hotel, two women dressed as waitresses made their way into the crowded ballroom, climbed onto the central table, and launched into a rant about Runway 2 NOT being something to celebrate!

They were removed by security after receiving some restrained applause, and then detained for two hours until the Chief Constable - who had himself been seated at the table - decided not to charge them with criminal damage to a bread roll.

During this time, two more campaigners dressed in their best, managed to mount the stage, find a microphone and give the dinner guests further food for thought.

Graham Stringer, now Labour MP and airport executive, and one of the guests of honour, was observed turning pale white, then a nice bright red. Perhaps one day he’ll manage green - but somehow that seems unlikely.
