Llandona Common

The Countryside Council for Wales has jointly published a ‘conservation’ (nature reserve) plan for Llandona/Llaniestyn common whose recommendations amount to the razing of the common land. This will transform a healthy regrowth of small trees and gorse to a poisoned and desecrated patch of bare land.

They have begun their plan - parts of Llandona common have been trashed, and firebreaks prepared at Llaniestyn. Farmers burn heather to induce fresh shoots for their sheep to feed on, and the CCW call this sound ecology - trash, enclose and graze our commons. Why on Earth don’t they leave the land to restore herself from centuries of overgrazing?
