Dirty Drax
Breach, a marine protection group in Goole, East Yorks, are co-ordinating action against Drax Power Station, near Selby. This is in response to National Power holding trials of American imported Petroleum Coke at the power station. PetCoke is really nasty -if you want more details of its high levels of sulphur, nickel, vanadium, selenium, mercury and chromium, and their inefficient combustion leading to acid rain, respiratory diseases, cancer, pollution of the food chain and general poisonousness, or about the loss of income to the local mining community in Selby, contact Breach for their ‘Dirty Drax’ information pack. A demonstration outside the plant on 26th April received support from all the main political parties in the area, a Green Party speaker, Friends of the Earth and the local community. The campaign is now set to get radical, possibly targeting National Power’s AGM. For more info, contact Breach on 01405-769375 or at 3, St John’s Street, Goole DN14.
