Whatley Quarry

A network of activists front around Somerset did an early morning shut down of Whatley Quarry on 14th December, blocking the gates all morning and preventing lorry movements. The quarry bosses were reduced to pleading with the forty or so activists to let the lorry drivers past through the gates to go home for the weekend. Actions at Whatley Quarry will continue, as every extra pound they lose makes destruction firm ARC’s dire financial situation even worse and the likelihood of even more ecological devastation less of a possibility.

A number of people in the Somerset area have been arrested and have had equipment seized in connection with the railway tracks at Whatley Quarry that were sabotaged recently. An unknown number of people have been charged with conspiracy to cause criminal damage and endanger life.
