Naburn Woods

Clearance work has started at Naburn Woods, in York in readiness for a huge out of town shopping centre. However, the activity has been sporadic and York EF! have been unfortunate that all the days that they picked to stop work have been times when none was scheduled anyway.

On December 14th a select few activists paid a visit to the developer’s (BAA McArthur Glen’s) existing shopping centre near Ellesmere Port. People climbed on the roof and explained the issue through a loudhailer to the generally supportive crowd. The rest of the day was spent leafleting and getting thrown out several times by increasingly irate security. Although numbers were small, they did make an impact, especially on shops which may be considering investing in the Naburn Scheme, and some interest has already been shown in returning to do the job properly in the near future.
