Whatley To Expand

Back in December ‘95 Whatley Quarry was the scene of one of the Earth First! movements biggest actions. One of the aims of that action was to highlight the owners AMEY Roadstone Corporation’s plan to expand the quarry by a further eighty-five acres. Last month the Somerset County Council gave permission for that expansion. Local opposition to the expansion is considerable and direct action is now considered to be the only option left.

Trashing of mature trees and hedgerows could start at any time. Local campaign group Mendip Hills not Holes, are organised for building local support but need help from experienced activists for squatting, treehouses and offensive actions.
