Porl Y Ynys (People Of The Island)
The fight against Celtic Energy’s destruction of the Welsh valleys continues, with work on all sites steadily progressing. Work at Selar Farm is about to commence with the removal of the old slag heap from the last opencast mine. This heap sits above the translocated watermeadows moved from the Selar site by Celtic Energy. These watermeadows are likely to be destroyed by the heaps' move and radical gardeners are urgently needed to replant this slag heap, as well as other ‘reclaimed’ land. The idea for the Selar site is to turn it into the largest art gallery in Europe. They are calling all artists, of any sorts, who would like to do installations concerning ecological issues, to come down and help decorate the site.
Nanthelen has only two inhabitants now, so please come up and join them. They live next to two working sites and planning permission for an extension plan is due on the 19th July. Planning permission is also expected for the Tir Dafydd site in Ammanford in the near future. This is a brilliant site, but nobody is living there at the moment, so if you are able to, come down and start a camp.
There is also a safe site in Llannelli in the heart of Celtic Energy’s ground. The site is owned by a friend and is old Forestry Commission Land and needs re-planting. The address is Bregllwyd Quarry, Court Wood, Pembray, Wales. For more information contact: 0468 32829 or 01792 475882.
