Squat The Asylum Bill
On February 5th, all benefits were cut off to large numbers of asylum seekers and refugees. The Old Courthouse in Hackney was squatted as an Autonomous Refugee Centre, to house those made homeless by these new regulations. Since then it’s been evicted but they expect to have a new building soon. Its hoped that similar projects can be sorted elsewhere.
Links with refugee & community groups need to be strengthened. Other forms of practical support needed include: the defence of refugee’s homes threatened with attack; legal and illegal support; advice and organising to cover for services denied to asylum seekers. Contact via SQUASH: 0171 226 8938.
