Kings X Women’s Centre
Volunteers at Kings Cross Womens Centre have provided free advice & support to thousands of women (and men) since 1975. MP Ken Livingstone gave women the premises in 1979 at a rent of £2 per week. In December 1993 without consulting the centre, Camden Council sold it to the ‘Community Housing Association’ (CHA) for £14,000. Less than a year later CHA demanded £6,000 rent per year. The centre was unable to pay, so CHA responded with eviction proceedings. CHA are part of a consortium to develop Kings Cross for The Channel Tunnel Link and aim to ‘clean up’ the area for business. Help save the centre from eviction. On March 1st the centre lost its appeal against the CHA. A phone tree is being set up for forthcoming actions. Support the centre. 0171 837 7509.
