Streets Reclaimed

Manchester successfully reclaimed one of their main streets on Oct. 21st - highlighting the need for a pedestrianised system in the city centre. They were joined by Birmingham critical massers who cycled up through the Peak District - okay, they used the train too!

600 people danced and partied in the street until 5pm to live bands and sound systems. Then, proceeding to Albert Square, they raved until morning. Police presence was low, although the 'fat controller' did threaten the sound system. Quick cuffs were used on a man whose lorry blocked the way. Apart from this, a great success.

500 people joyfully blocked one of Bristol’s main (and poshest) streets on October 28th. The police were powerless to act as they partied to the pedal-powered “Rinky Dink” sound system, a bizzarre brass band, a celidh and a Children’s puppet show. The desire to play has returned...
