No Derby Bypass

Actions have started again at the A564 Derby Bypass after a quiet summer. On October 6th a Tarmac board meeting was combined with a meeting of their “Environmental Advisory Panel” (!) Protesters greeted them and 15 people successfully stopped a concrete pour. The Board members’ tour of the route was diverted, avoiding an unplanned rendezvous with digger divers. Activists had previously refused to attend this greenwash exercise with Sir John Banham, Chairman of Tarmac. He told two of them he planned to plant trees next to the completed road! Sir JB was hurt when his offer of lunch was turned down.

The fact that Tarmac has an “Environmental Advisory Panel” and that the Chairman of the board of directors attempted to placate protesters is a sure sign that they are running scared. Actions continue but as yet there is no permanent camp. More people are desperately needed. 01332 601871
