Tarmac and the Department of Transport are still "a million miles apart" from reaching a settlement over costs for the construction of the M3 through Twyford Down. The original tender was £26 million but eventually ended up at £44 million. Tarmac received £8.5 million for the delays caused by protests against the road but are still asking £28 million more for 'various costs' - including security costs.
