Leeds Opencast

The campaign against open cast mining is kicking off in the West Yorkshire area. A camp has been established at Hawks Nest Wood, Ash Lane (opposite East Garforth Post Office), Garforth. The first tree-houses are up, but full-time residents are needed. Actions are being planned. Local support is high, with The Rackwood Colliery Co. unable to evict thanks to a friendly landowner.

On the 7th Sept, there will be the court case of 17 protesters and 2 journalists arrested for aggravated trespass during a recent anti-opencast action.

All help needed, particularly if you have experience in climbing or tree-house building. Wish list: Tarps, harnesses, ropes, polyprop, water butts, pallets, banners, stoves/burners, pots’n’pans. Contact Cornerstone on (0113) 262 9365
