Land Rights

At the end of May, the Land is Ours movement staged a successful week long occupation of an area of enclosed land in Nottingham. The six acre site at Radford was cleared of rubbish as a camp was set up and workshops held on sustainable living. The occupation aimed to highlight ordinary people's exclusion and lack of access to open spaces. Campaigners believe that the land which is due to become a car park would make a wonderful wildlife sanctuary and stress that it is an area heavily used by locals as a recreation site.

Uninvited picnickers also reclaimed some of the beautiful 4000 acre estate of Viscount Parker, 9th Earl of Macclesfield, for several days. He didn’t even notice they were there until the ‘Oxford Times’ told him!
