Stonehenge & Battle of the Beanfield.
While the rest of the country was celebrating VE day an alternative celebration was happening down at Stonehenge. Hundreds arrived at five in the morning and to their surprise easily gained access to the centre of the stones. They stayed there all day Picnicking & Dancing. English Heritage made no attempt to get them out but did let all the normal visitors in for half-price and handed out leaflets apologising for the spoilt view of the stones! Some of the visitors decided to join the fun in the middle. June 1st see's the tenth anniversary of the Battle of the Beanfield where police decided to violently prevent a free festival at the stones. There will be a gathering held in memory of this infamous event. 0171 501 9253
