RTZ Aggravated General Meeting
The AGM of Rio Tinto Zinc (RTZ), the worlds largest mining corporation, was hit on May 10th in London, with Earth First! and Partizans protesters drowning the lies from the stage and supporting indigenous West Papuans present amid the meeting. Activists were dragged out by the mining corporation's private security firm, Wackenhut.
RTZ has heavily invested in mining operations in West Papua to ensure increased production at the Freeport Mine at Grasberg. It was here that around 40 of the indigenous protesters fighting against pollution, cultural destruction & the occupying Indonesian Military, were recently massacred by soldiers and Freeport's security. Over the next few months 2000 people will be forcibly relocated, and many have already been forced into camps to clear the land. Military Dictator Suharto of Indonesia announced in May that the West Papuans would be "shadowed like those in East Timor", an attempt to silence the prodemocracy and independence movements which centre on the mine. The situation is similar to Bougainville, were another RTZ mine sparked the ongoing civil war which has left thousands dead. From supporting the Nazi's in prewar Germany to bulldozing Aboriginal villages, RTZ has shown itself to be one of the most ruthless companies with respect to Human Rights & the Environment.
