McLibel Trial Latest

On the 26th April, the Employment section of the trial started, with two witnesses from McDonalds testifying. The first, Sid Nicholson, head of Personnel for McD's UK was questioned about the low pay and high hours for workers, and the company's hostility to Trade Unions. Robert Beavers on the Board of Directors in McD's US was the next to testify.

On a more active note, Saturday 15th April, was McDonald's 40th Anniversary. Dave and Helen of the McLibel campaign travelled to Illinois, to smash a birthday cake and wish Ronald an unhappy birthday. McDonald's cancelled all the celebrations they had due to the protests. Meanwhile, in Britain, over 100 stores were picketed, and much disruption was caused. Well done to all of you who got involved, especially Swindon, where the local store was closed for the day, resulting in a loss of £5000. Contact 0171 7131269

Operation "Send it Back" has also been launched. Collect McD's rubbish (which has a useful life span of 10 minutes!) and send it back to: Paul Preston, McDonald's HQ, 11-59 High Road, London. N2 8AW
