Solsbury Hill - Anniversary
200 protesters marked the anniversary of the beginning of the destruction of Solsbury Hill. Over a long weekend of actions the site was invaded several times and work was stopped on at least two days.
On March 14th, local lad Eddie, quit his job as security guard at the construction site. Egged on by jubilant protesters, Eddie threw off his yellow jacket and walked off site, forfeiting not only his job but his wages for his previous 61 hours work. When asked what prompted his dramatic decision Eddie replied, "It just wasn't worth it any more. The security guards were dragging people off the diggers and it was dangerous. Plus, I was sick of the mud".
On the Tuesday one person was arrested on a trumped up assault charge and bailed to appear at Bath Magistrates Court on April 19th, 9.30am. Tel. 01222 343066. Solsbury Hill Action Group are still organising actions and they are having a Beltaine Gathering on the Hill.
